BRASIL

Each time anew
When I hear your music

I get carried away
To a far away land
Of my childhood dreams

Antonio Carlos Jobim
Flora Purim
Sergio Mendes
Airto

Brasil '66

I've got
The Bossa Nova
In my blood
And in my soul
The rhythm of life

These are songs
About a girl
Rio de Jainero
Copacabana
And a warm evening sun

Brasil
You help me find
On the tune of a melody
That far away land
Of my childhood dreams

Déjà-vu

I just got this notion
Seeing your face
A certain emotion
My memory left no trace

All that I am doing
Standing here confused
No idea where my memory is going
Leaving you amused

I hear that bell ringing
Sort of idea might be it
What is this bringing
All those fragments just don't fit

It's a déjà-vu, that's all
No more wondering why
The past made a call
Now just let it fly

The Kite Flyer

He watched the skies
In the morning
In the afternoon
For wind to move
Or a blue sky

He looked at the top
Of distant trees
To see the branches dancing
On a blowing wind
To fly his kite

It was a big colourful butterfly
Made out of cotton and bamboo

And a hundred meter long string
He watched it fly
High up in the sky

He dreamed he was that kite
Above it all
Dancing on the wind

Like a bird
In the sky

This boy laying in the grass
Watching the sky
And the kite dancing
On the wind
Was me

Passionate infatuation

I once knew a man
He got caught in a passionate flight
He did all he can
Not to taste infatuation might

His life unrolled like an odyssey
And soon enough had a siren to pass
She enticed him with her body
And stuck his soul with a mass

He was a traveller, far and away
With wife and children home
No other game to play
Than to play out of Homerus' tome

He managed to free himself
Of desire's chain and ball
By luck or good reason, himself
He heard integrity's call

Life is lived whatever way
But once by loyalty's negation
Dishonesty then is to stay
As hurting passionate infatuation

Beauty

Beauty is
A smile
The motion of a dancer
Stars at night

When a young man
I saw at a distance
A group of trees
And was overwhelmed
By the beauty of it

When travelling through France
I fully agreed
Why Paris is called
The center of the arts
She similarly overwhelmed me
When I saw her beauty for the first time
On a distance

A well-known philosopher once wrote
You will get out of something, that
What you put into it
Then isn't it so that
When someone sees beauty
It's because that person himself is creating it
To begin with

Not always easy to do
But seeing the beauty
In another
As well as yourself
Will make this world
Just that more beautiful
To begin with

Beauty is
When I see your smile
The motions of a dancer
Those stars at night

Identification

As a kid, already
When people called my name
I wondered, who is that
When they called my name

They did not call me
They didn't see me
They did not know I was there
Until later in my life

It's a way to pinpoint
Someone in a body
With his body
And get him to forget about himself

I have no axe to grind with the past
Nor with anyone in it
Nor with myself for agreeing
But I have made up my mind

I am extremely delighted to know
There are people on this planet
Who can look, see and understand
Who I really am

Above it all
I am at peace with myself in knowing
That who I am
Is the being I am after all

They dance
In front of
The Shinto temple

The kite
Is flying
Over the beach

In a quiet street
Of Tokyo
You can hear them laugh

While they play
With a doll
Or a ball

If you want to see
Asian serenity
Look at them

Japanese children!
