Heinavesi

I wrote the following on request while I stayed in Finland in June 2015.
Part of the evening was a Sibelius concert celebrating Midsummer.
One of the invited speakers read my poem.
(Heinävesi is the place where this event was held; a koivu tree is a birch tree))

Heinävesi, Heinävesi
Come and see
There is a pike in the koivu tree
Heinävesi, Heinävesi
Don´t you know
This is the place where water flows
Where children dance over stones
Where water flows where it goes
Once water was high
Land was low
Spirit was high
Spirit went low
Heinävesi, don´t you know
When the stop is taken out
The water flows
Then salmon dance
And visitors glance
Magic grows
Just as water flows
So once again
Heinävesi, Heinävesi
Come and see
There is a salmon dancing
In the koivu tree
